Perspectives From People Who Have Been Where You Are

ZH

Zarina bt Hasrul

Petaling Jaya · Wills & Wasiyyah

"I had been telling myself I would sort out a will for years. After these sessions I finally understood what I actually needed to do and in what order. The executor checklist alone was worth the whole thing — I had no idea that role carried such specific responsibilities."

Ramli bin Nordin

Seremban · ASNB Navigator

"I have held an ASB account for over fifteen years and honestly never understood what I was putting money into. The three sessions explained things at a pace I could follow — no jargon, no pressure to do anything specific. I left with an actual worksheet I could use with my own numbers."

Fatimah bt Musa

Shah Alam · Life-Stage Programme

"I enrolled six months after losing my husband. It was a difficult time to be thinking about finances but I knew I had to. The facilitator was patient and did not rush anything. The action plan we built together is something I refer back to regularly. Not everything was easy to hear but it was all necessary."

Krishnamurthy Arumugam

Klang · Wills & Wasiyyah

"What I appreciated was that the session addressed both Muslims and non-Muslims in the same room without making it awkward. I am Hindu and the conventional will section was directly relevant to me. The facilitator was careful to explain both frameworks without favouring one."

Norliza bt Ibrahim

Ampang · ASNB Navigator

"The second session on contribution strategies was particularly useful. I had been contributing in quite an arbitrary way for years. The worksheet helped me see what a more structured approach would actually look like over time. I wish there were four sessions instead of three — I still had questions at the end."

Chong Kai Weng

Subang Jaya · Life-Stage Programme

"I took early retirement and found myself unexpectedly anxious about money for the first time in my working life. The programme was structured and unhurried. The follow-up consultations were where things really came together — I had time to sit with each session before returning with more specific questions."

Three Situations. Three Different Starting Points.

AJ

A Civil Servant at 57 with No Will

The Situation

Ahmad Johari, a 57-year-old former teacher, had significant EPF savings and two properties but had never written a will. He was Muslim and uncertain whether a Wasiyyah would be sufficient or whether he needed both documents.

What the Programme Did

The sessions clarified that EPF nominations function separately from will distribution, that a Wasiyyah only covers up to one-third of an estate under Syariah law, and that a conventional will was still relevant for his non-Muslim beneficiaries and jointly held property.

After the Programme

He completed his will with a licensed will-writer within eight weeks, updated his EPF nomination, and documented his asset list using the pre-drafting checklist.

"I had been putting this off because I did not know enough to start. Now I know enough to have finished."
LH

A Business Owner Unclear About Her ASB

The Situation

Lily Hng, 52, had held an ASB account since her late twenties and had accumulated a substantial balance, but had no clear strategy for it. She was approaching the point of selling her business and wanted to understand where ASB fits in her overall picture.

What the Programme Did

She learned the ceiling structure of fixed-price ASNB funds, the differences between ASB and the variable unit trust options, and how to think about using the funds as a stable element alongside her business sale proceeds.

After the Programme

She used the planning worksheet to model two different contribution scenarios and decided how to allocate a portion of the sale proceeds in a way she was genuinely comfortable with.

"I finally understand what I own and why I own it. That clarity is worth more than any return rate."
RA

A Widower Returning to Financial Independence

The Situation

Rohani bt Abdullah, 61, had relied heavily on her late husband's financial decisions throughout their marriage. Following his passing, she found herself with assets she did not fully understand and decisions she had never made alone.

What the Programme Did

The programme worked through each area of her financial picture in sequence — her income position after EPF withdrawal, Takaful coverage that could be adjusted, ASNB holdings she had not reviewed, and estate documents that needed to be updated to reflect her changed status.

After the Programme

She had a written action plan addressing each area, completed most items within three months, and reported in the third follow-up consultation that she felt fully in command of her financial situation for the first time.

"I was not ready at first. The sessions were patient with that. By the end I did not need anyone else to manage this for me."
